India's E20 progress
Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas figures released on 10 July 2026 report more than ₹1.97 lakh crore in foreign exchange saved, around 952 lakh metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions reduced, and more than ₹1.66 lakh crore in farmer earnings supported since ESY 2014-15. These are national programme totals, not per-car savings.
Older cars already running E20
Maruti field evidence covers 2.84 crore services since 2023, including over 1.5 crore pre-2023 vehicles, with no E20-linked corrosion, wear or component damage reported. Bajaj stated on 11 July 2026 that bikes made by Bajaj Auto for more than ten years are E20 compatible. SIAM confirms that specification-compliant E20 will not void warranty.
Global track record
Brazil's long-running ethanol programme, E20 in Thailand, E25 in Paraguay, and E15 and E85 in the United States demonstrate successful blend-specific operation in major markets. Each market matches the fuel to the vehicle capability and local standard.
My E20 contribution
Car-specific tank figures use the selected car's sourced nominal capacity and a transparent programme-rate estimate. The national story includes the bamboo bioethanol plant inaugurated at Numaligarh in September 2025 and IndianOil's Panipat plant, which uses about two lakh tonnes of rice straw a year to produce around three crore litres of ethanol.
